A love so strong, even eternity can’t separate them.
Evie Starling has lived a relatively uneventful life hanging out with friends, gossiping about boys, and driving her 1966 Mustang. All of that changes when she moves to Gunnison, Colorado, to start college and meets two mysterious men.
For centuries, Alex Night and Emil Stone have yearned for Evie—but they each have their own reasons for wanting to be with her. When both men claim to be her soul mate and tell her about an unbelievable past, Evie learns that she’s not the person she thought she was. Soon, Evie finds herself in the middle of an age-old battle between the Amaranthine Society—the soul protectors, and the Daevos Resistance—the soul destroyers. With a past she doesn’t understand, and a future rife with danger, Evie has to decide who she can trust. But Alex and Emil aren’t the only ones who want Evie, and her soul is about to become the rope in an eternal tug-of-war.
My Thoughts
Eternal Starling was a little slow for me in the first 2/3 of the book. It was not really until the last 1/3 of the book where it drew me in more. I wished there was more going on during the first 2/3 of the book because it made me read slower than expected.
The first 2/3 was more like putting the story in place. Once you get to the last 1/3, it is really where the story unfolds and everything seems to be revealed about the characters and more about the background of who Emil and Alex really are. Also, the action and adventure really start at the last 1/3. I wished it more mixed in to draw the readers in from the first 2/3 of the book.
My favorite part is where I learned about Alex and Emil. I liked what they told Evie their real purpose is and how they are both connected to Evie. I feel more touched with Emil’s story because it seems more romantic than Alex’s story, however, it is also touching. It is just not as touching as Emil. I think they are good in their own ways. It is obvious that Alex and Emil, both, really love Evie and would do anything to keep her safe.
I love the concept of soul mates! I thought it was somewhat weird that in this book, Evie is connected to two soul mates. However, it makes it a good twist to the story. I think the beginning really sets these two characters in place in this novel.
Overall, Eternal Starling is a pretty interesting novel. I would continue to read this series just to find out about Evie, Alex, and Emil!

I understand what you mean about the last 1/3 of the book having all the action. When a book is written like that it does take longer to read. I’m still excited to read Eternal Starling!

Two soul mates? Is that even possible? That would be just awkward. But like you said, it does make an interesting twist.

I like the fact that you’re honest about some of the pacing of the book and what you think is weird.
Can’t wait to read Eternal Starling in December.

I think maybe if an author knows that they intend to create a series of books that perhaps the first book may start off slower than one might like. I’m certainly no expert and I’ve not read the book so I can’t say for sure with regard to it but I definitely want to read it. So thanks for this opportunity.
