Hello! We have the author of My Life Next Door, Huntley Fitzpatrick, with us today to share with us what she does when she’s not writing! Welcome Huntley!
When I’m not writing I’m generally catching up on what I’m not doing or running behind on or wishing I were doing when I am writing. Which means exciting things like laundry and housecleaning, and also things that matter like taking long bike rides with my kids or going for trips with them. We love to travel as a family and that’s something I find rejuvenating and essential. As I write this, we are in California seeing my dad, and able to spend long days on the beach and have ice cream and lemonade and picnics long before their regularly scheduled time in Massachusetts. If I could pick one place I love the most, it would be the beach—any beach.. When I’m not writing, I am also reading other people’s stories. I always have a towering stack of books I want to read by the bed. I try not to read while I’m in a writing cave because I don’t want to unconsciously start trying to sound like someone else. I’ve been worried about this ever since an English Teacher in 8th grade wrote “Apparently you have discovered Catcher in the Rye” on one of my papers. When I’m not writing, I’m hopefully taking time to do nothing special at all with people I care about.
Thanks for sharing with us what you do when you’re not writing, Huntley!
A gorgeous debut about family, friendship, first romance, and how to be true to one person you love without betraying another
“One thing my mother never knew, and would disapprove of most of all, was that I watched the Garretts. All the time.”
The Garretts are everything the Reeds are not. Loud, numerous, messy, affectionate. And every day from her balcony perch, seventeen-year-old Samantha Reed wishes she was one of them . . . until one summer evening, Jase Garrett climbs her terrace and changes everything. As the two fall fiercely in love, Jase’s family makes Samantha one of their own. Then in an instant, the bottom drops out of her world and she is suddenly faced with an impossible decision. Which perfect family will save her? Or is it time she saved herself?
A dreamy summer read, full of characters who stay with you long after the story is over.
