Push the seal firmly onto the rear of the opening so that the self adhesive gets a good contact - clearly the surfaces should be clean and free from dust and dirt first! The other way is to pull out the choke - all the way out and keep tickling the throttle. I'm with Tom and Lew- air leak and I also have only had vapor lock after shutdown hot soak. When stopped for petrol the carb and air charge temps are about 48 degs max If you look at the similar situation from my previous drive test, when stopped for petrol thes carb and air charge temps reach 55 degs. If the plate is fitted with the slot on the left, all this rotating air will be thrown out of the slot and a vacuum situation develops in the bell housing sucking oil out from the rear main. No I have not used it without the FP regulator.

Also concerning the pattern water pump and pulley is the fact that the the felt washer and its retaining cover shown on the diagram appear to be no longer available, and probably not needed since the pump bearings are now double sealed.
